On Tuesday 18th September Year 1 went on a visit to Diggerland in Durham to help support the learning of their current topic of ‘Construction’. All of the children (and staff) had an amazing time. They got to go on lots of rides and use real life diggers! At lunchtime they got back on the coach and went to Wharton Park where they had a picnic in the sunshine. It was a fantastic day!
On Saturday 17th March the school had our second family day. Teachers with parents their children went to Empire Cinemas Sunderland again to see the new release of Peter Rabbit. Everyone had a great time despite the snow outside! We are already looking forward to our next visit in the Summer Term.
Below are photos of families that attended.
30 pupils from RAPS attended Derwent Hill and had a great learning experience amidst a significant Lakeland snowfall.
The pupils took part in the John Muir Discovery Award, and engaged in the 4 areas of Discover, Explore, Conserve and Share. John Muir was great environmentalist who had a love of wild places and introducing them to young people.
As part of their work some 800 trees were planted by pupils, under the direction of the Environment Agency.
The whole residential week proved to be a tremendous Outdoor Education learning experience in which pupils not only undertook adventurous activities, developed a deeper understanding of the environment, but also learnt a lot about themselves.
Year 2 went on a visit to the Centre for Life in Newcastle to learn more about dinosaurs. The Dino Jaws exhibition was fascinating and the children loved seeing the dinosaur models up close! Later they enjoyed exploring the Centre for Life, watching a Science Theatre Show and even trying ice-skating! A brilliant trip thoroughly enjoyed by all!
Year 5 visited the new Sunderland bridge, The Northern Spire. The children learnt a range of information about the jobs that the building of the bridge created and will create in the future. The children got to see how the bridge has been constructed over the past 3 years and discussed the positive impact the bridge will have on Sunderland as a city.
Year 2 went on a trip to the National Glass Centre. The children learnt about the materials the Glass Centre building was made from and compared this to the materials St Peter’s Church was made from. Later they designed and made their own winter glass painting and then watched a demonstration of a glass snowman being made. A fantastic days for everyone involved!
Year 5 visited Sunderland University’s climbing wall as part of Wellbeing Week and all of the children had the opportunity to challenge themselves to reach the top of the wall. Everyone had an amazing time and used the university sporting facilities afterwards.
