Hi today we are starting a new school-wide arts project.
This is an art project for all the family to take part in. It will be a record of the unusual times that all families are living through at this time. We hope that it will be enjoyable for everyone And Lots of Families will take part.
Memory Vessels
Memory Vessels have been made throughout history. They can be made out of all sorts of bits and bobs around your home and you can cover any vessel.
Year 5 visited the Oriental Museum in Durham as part of this term’s history topic; the Ancient Egyptians. They looked at and were able to handle a range of real Egyptian artifacts and also dressed as Egyptians and learned all about how to mummify a body and why this was important to the Egyptians. Finally, the children saw (and smelled) a real Ancient Egyptian Mummy.
Year 4 went on a visit to the National Glass Centre and St Peter’s Church as part of their Art and RE work. The children are looking at Aspects of Sunderland in their art lessons so they walked to the Glass Centre to take in the sights and give them inspiration for their glass painting. The visit to St Peter’s Church allowed the children to look at the beautiful stained glass windows as well as seeing the part of the church that is still standing from Anglo-Saxon times over 1600 years ago.
