We have been crowned Sunderland Basketball Champions 2025 after a hard fought tournament at the Verto Basketball Arena.

We had played two games, one before the Newcastle Eagles game against the London Jazz, and then one at half time, played in front of the sold out arena.

The first game against Barnes (a local derby no-less) was a close fought battle, but we took an early lead and then extended it quickly afterwards. Barnes played well and almost got back into the game on a few occasions but could get the score they need to start a comeback. We held the lead and finished 2-0 winner, which advanced us to the finals.

The final played at half time against Farrington was another hard fought match and end to end action. We played well and scored on a quick break and held the lead to run out 1-0 winner and Sunderland Champions.

We’ll be returning to the arena in April, just before easter to face off against the other champions from the other North East regions, Newcastle, South Tyneside and Durham.

Until then we’ll bask in our glory. Well done to all the pupils involved and we hope to see you at the arena in april to cheer us on.
