Richard Avenue Primary School prides itself on the importance of a healthy body, a healthy mind and living a healthy lifestyle. We believe that the children’s physical development in our school will strongly influence their health throughout their lives .
We offer the children quality sports provision. Our outdoor space has recently been greatly enhanced a by a M.U.G.A (multi use games area), KS1 Fitness park and a range of Gym equipment which the children use at break times, after school and in PE lessons. This goes alongside a fitness assault course, a large playing field with football goals, an outdoor play yard with basketball nets and table tennis tables and a spacious indoor hall which is used for games, dance and gymnastics.
Physical Education is timetabled for two hours a week for Year 1 – 6. In PE we cover a range of sports to develop the children’s skills. This is made up of specialist sports coaches delivering PE lessons and a sport primary liaison teacher who delivers CPD to staff. Swimming is also included in PE with Year 5 having access to weekly swimming sessions with qualified swimming instructors. There is also a selection of extra – curricular sporting activities offered at lunchtimes, including intra school tournaments, and after school by coaches and school staff.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 circumstances the last couple of school years, we have not been able to go out and participate in sporting events like we usually would so we decided to do something different where everyone could be involved
Before the Summer holidays, we organized a range of coaches and fitness activities to come into school, so we could be active, whilst also having fun!
We are very fortunate to have talented staff and children who share enthusiasm for sport and determination for success.
