Some Sporting Success

Year 5 Basketball Team
The Year 5 Basketball Team.

Three Y5 teams entered the Hoop4Health basketball tournament.

All the teams showed great basketball skills in their matches. Team 1 won all of their games and made the final where they played team 2 who only lost one of their games. In the final Team 1 won 6-0 and progress to the Sunderland Finals at the Newcastle Eagles Arena on Friday 17th January.

Our year 3/4 hockey team took part in the Sunderland Hockey Finals.

After starting with a loss, the team showed great determination to improve and went on to win their next 3 games. A great effort by all of the team.

Tyne & Wear Tennis Finals

The Year 4 Tyne & Wear Tennis Champions.

After winning the Sunderland Tennis Finals, the Year 4 team represented the school at the Tyne & Wear finals. They played in Group A against 84 other schools from Newcastle, South Tyneside and North Tyneside. Richard Avenue came top of this group and so advanced to the final to play the other teams that also had made it. During this competition we finished with a record of 5 wins to 3 losses. This was enough to crown us champions of the whole of Tyne & Wear, the first time we have achieved this!

An amazing achievement and well done to all involved.

Sunderland Tennis Champions

The Year 4 Sunderland Tennis Champions.

The Year 4 tennis team represented the school at the Sunderland Tennis Finals. They competed in both tennis skills and matches and every single member of the team played brilliantly.

We ended the day as champions and will advance to the Tyne & Wear Finals.

Well done!

Year 5 and 6 Sunderland Tennis Champions

The Year 5 Sunderland Tennis Champions.

The Year 5 and 6 Tennis team took part in the Sunderland Tennis Finals. They showed great determination in both their tennis matches and in the skills events. After all the points they gained where added together we had beaten everyone else and where named Sunderland Champions.

Well done everyone!

The whole of year 5 enjoyed an afternoon with some of the players from the Newcastle Eagles basketball team. During the afternoon, they worked on how to stay healthy in terms of diet and mental health. To finish the afternoon the players showed off some of their skills and then ran drills with the children. Finally, the children finished off with a game against each other.

Year 3 and 4 Sunderland Hockey Finals

The Year 3 and 4 hockey team.

Our Year 3 and 4 Hockey team went to Silksworth to represent the school in the Sunderland Hockey Finals. They won every game in their group to advance to the final. After going 1-0 behind they showed great determination to come back and win the game 4-1 to become the champions of Sunderland and advance to the Tyne and wear Finals.

Sportshall Athletics Competition

On 16th October 10 boys and 10 girls from Y5/6 represented Richard Avenue at the Sportshall Athletics competition at Biddick Academy.

They took part in a range of events such as long jump, sprint, relay, triple jump and javelin. Everyone in the team tried very hard at each event and some children were named as winners in their specific events.

Very well done to all involved.

On a number of Monday evenings after school the Y5/6 Rugby team took part in the first ever Sunderland Tag Rugby League.

The team played seven games demonstrating great team spirit and dedication as they came from behind on a number of occasions. They won three games, drew three and lost one to be named as joint champions.
