Journey out to the River Wear | September 15, 2013

As part of the curriculum, the whole school is looking at sustainability in its different forms. To integrate this, year six took a trip to the River Wear to look at living things and their habitats.

The children took samples of river water to specifically look at the micro organisms living in that section of the river to get an overall picture of life of the river. The samples where classified by animals and plants.

Adding to this, the children spent the day learning about and recognising the different characteristics of the micro organisms. A successful and fun day had by all.

School Allotment Relocation | September 12, 2013

We decided to relocate our school allotment and greenhouse to a better suited plot for sunshine, size of plot and accessibility for all classes.

With help from school staff, local community members, parents and children we have an impressive allotment plot offering hands on learning relating to growth and healthy eating. Fruit and vegetable produce grown by the children is also harvested by the children and we had great success selling it to our parents, who have had an input into what we plant next time.

Our school cook also includes school grown vegetables in school lunches.
